Ulquiorra stated himself he was dying as his internal organs were destroyed. He disintegrated into dust.

So I was rereading bleach and something about his death scene kind of stood out for me. He didn't seem surprised, he looked at his body turning to ash and was like 'oh, well I guess that's it'. What if his secunda etapa form used up so much reishi his body couldn't hold itself together after using it? since souls and hollows are made up of reishi I'm assuming arrancars are as well. I don't know if this means he's kind of floating around in hue undo with some form of conciseness or he's just kind of recycled and eaten by those mini hollows

    • I think he was just accepting of his death. He had told Hollow Ichigo right before being Cero'd that he clearly couldn't win and had no purpose left, so he had resigned himself to his death. On top of that, he never came off as someone who feared death to begin with.

    • remember, he's not necessarily truly gone. hollow ichigo counts as a zanpakuto spirit, so it's possible he was just purified and will be reborn in seireitei (likely as a monstrously powerful potential shinigami with potentially dormant super vizard powers).

He was killed by a Cero. Cero does not purify anyone. Only the zanpakuto does - the physcial sword, not Ichigo's transformation.

    • You forget that if the inner hollow is also the zanpakuto spirit then it's powers count as a shinigami or else offensive kido-type powers couldn't be used, lest you get a similar problem to the one quincy caused by killing souls. I don't think it's a stretch to say that it's shinigami energy itself and not just the literal blade.

    • While that maybe a zanpakuto purifies thus its that part of ichigo that purifies not his hollow powers which in this instance it was 100% hollow powers being used it wasnt ichigo using a zanpakuto. The circumstance behind how that works doesnt change because of ichigo's circumstance and to say so without proof is inaccurate at best. We also dont claim to know how kido works in that regard either but while thats an extension of shinigami powers it may have something to do with it. But hollow is the exact opposite of a pure soul so that wouldnt makes sense. Quincy have no authority or purifying powers, they have no mandate to balance souls and hold no part in the process thus why they are a danger. Its a stretch cause you would have to overlook inherent flaws to make it make sense. Like a hollow (corrupt soul) has powers to purify a corrupt soul even with ichigo's circumstances. His shinigami powers are inherently shinigami as opposed to hollow regardless of his inner hollow being his zanpakuo spirit.

    • For those who are interested, despite thousands of letters inquiring of it, Kubo has refused to say whether or not Ulquiorra is dead. (I think it's because he hasn't decided himself.)

    • That seems to be the most likely case. I think he had the same dilemma with Grimmjow.
