Isshin Kurosaki was able to unleash a huge Getsuga Tenshou when fighting Aizen. How is this possible? Are the Zanpakutō powers related with their Family? We are also told that he knows the Final Getsuga Tenshou as he says his Zanpakutō did not easily teach him the technique. He says that in the Dangai Precipice World.

Any theories or does anyone know how he has the same technique as Ichigo?

    • One theory would be that Engetsu can mimic other forms of energy based attacks. Though I dont know that its entirely likely. The most prevailing theory based on what we know from the names of the zanpakuto's and the family connection and what Isshin says its probably more likely that zanpakuto's between parent & child maybe similar. These similarities would be something akin to how you might have similar appearance to a parent because of genetics. In this case would be similar spiritual energies.

    • I'm still curious to see if Isshin will ever use that Final Getsuga Tenshou that he learned, before Bleach ends. And i wonder if his Getsuga form looks the same as Ichigo's, or if he has a different version of its appearance. Imagine if Ichigo were to relearn it, and Isshin finally uses his, and they fight together, side by side. That'd be so epic.

    • It might have something to do with Ichigo not being a true Soul Reaper... he was conceived when Isshin had a human body, not when he was in his original body; plus, his powers have developed in a very complicated manner, to say the least, so he might have just inherited that ability.

    • It is probably a technique that Isshin's specific line has, the Getsu "type" swords for lack of a better term probably are similar in that technique specifically.

Actually I believe the answer is quite simple.

It might have everything to do with Ichigo's unique conception.

After all his mother was a quincy that got bitten by a hollow, and a Vasto Lord at that. His father became a shinigami/human hybrid to save Masaki.

Nimaiya himself said that the hollow power sealed inside Masaki, fused with Ichigo's shinigami powers. Most likely due to his unique nature, of being shinigami/hollow/quincy gave Ichigo similar powers to that of his father.

After all hollows are know for consuming other hollows, and even acquiring some of the traits of the hollow they consumed. So most likely the hollow power inside Masaki mimicked some of the traits of Engetsu.

Look at the names. Engetsu and Zangetsu. It screams that one of Ichigo's other aspects absorbed a part of Isshin powers.

      This is what I believe.

Just wanted to correct this. The Hollow White was not a Vasto Lorde, it is an experiemental Hollow created by Aizen. If he could create Vasto Lordes that long ago there would never have been any fuss over searching for more of them to complete the Espada during the Arrancar arc.

Actually he was a Vasto Lord. If you search for the definition of Vasto Lord everything in its appearance was that of a Vasto Lord. The same way everyone was saying that during Ulquiora fight Ichigo turned into a Vasto Lord.

The main problem with the White was that Aizen wasn't only exploring hollowfication but how to transcend the limits that bound both shinigamis and hollows. When the White self-destructed, if you remember Tousen words, he said the hollow had self-destructed because it had reached its maximum evolution.

So for all intended purposes the White was a failure. Even more the White was a hollow created through the souls of dead shinigami. So mosst likely Aizen goal was not only to see how far the hollow would evolve but if it would naturally transform into something neither hollow nor shinigami, but something beyond them.

And don't take Aizen words to the letter. If you remember way back, the main reason Aizen said he hadn't begun his invasion of Soul Society was that he wanted the Espada to be comprised solely of Vasto Lords. And we all saw what happened. He had only three maybe four Vasto Lords. Stark, Barragan, Harribel, Ulquiora and maybe Yammy.

And I say maybe Yammy, because in terms of looks Yammy didn't had the physical attributes common to Vasto Lords. Vasto Lords are said to be humanoid in form and size. Yammy form and size were way bigger. So maybe he was like Espada number 9. That one was a Gillian, but because his power growth had no limit, the more he fed on other hollows the more powerful he became, so he was the only Gillian among the Espada and Yammy in terms of looks didn't seemed a Vasto Lord and maybe he wasn't. Maybe he was just a Adjucha that had that special power of rage making his power grow. The more the rage the stronger he got.

Neither of those points are correct. If you look at the definition of a Vasto Lorde it is a conglomeration of Hollows which undergoes three stages of evolution by feeding on each other (Gilligan -> Adjuchas -> Vasto Lorde) and is similar or above a captain in combat ability, as well as being human sized. White most certainly was not that powerful and as you said yourself, White was made from Shinigami souls, not Hollows. Ergo he is not a vasto lorde, he just looks like one might expect a VL to look. You cannot take parts of a definition and say that because it matches part of it, it fits the entire thing, especially when there is a contradiction in how White and VL are formed, which is a more important part of the definition. Ditto with Ichigo, he just looks like White.

As for Tosen saying it reached its end stage, he was not suggesting White a was VL, its just as far as that experiment was capable of progressing. Indeed that was its purpose - to infect a Shinigami with Hollowfication and self-destructing the body was a sign that this had happened. That is what is being referred to, not VL.

I am closing this now as it is much too far off topic and was dead before you posted in it.
