Rikū Togakushi (戸隠 李空, Togakushi Rikū) was the 3rd Seat of the 3rd Division of the Gotei 13.[1] His captain was Rōjūrō Ōtoribashi.

Appearance

Rikū has light colored hair that is tied back into a long, braided ponytail. He has small eyebrows. Rikū wears the standard Shinigami uniform.

Plot

Soul Society arc

As Ichigo and friends break into Seireitei, Rikū looks up in awe as he watches the Kūkaku cannonball fall.[2]

The Thousand-Year Blood War arc

Along with Lieutenant Izuru Kira and his fellow Third Division officers, he is present at the base of one of the pillars of blue flame caused by the Wandenreich invasion. When a member of the Reishi Investigation Team tells them there is a Quincy inside the flame, Izuru orders them to attack. However, Izuru is heavily wounded before he can do anything. Rikū criticizes the vile nature of the surprise attack and orders the remaining Shinigami to use their Shikai to attack. He releases his Shikai, but the Quincy appears behind him and cuts him down. The SRDI notes that his Reiatsu has vanished.[3]

Powers & Abilities

Zanpakutō

Shunjin (春塵, Spring Dust): Although largely unseen, in its sealed form, it appears to resemble a normal katana.[4]

  • Shikai: Its release command is "Coil Upward" (巻きて昇れ, makite nobore). The sword takes the form of a scythe with a long, straight shaft. Unusually, the blade's cutting edge appears to be upon the outside of the curve, rather than its interior like typical scythes.[4]

Trivia

  • Like his fellow Third Division seated officers — Taketsuna Gori and Asuka Katakura — the name of Rikū's Zanpakutō is a poetic, seasonal word. "Shunjin" (春塵, Spring Dust) is a term used to describe frost/snow "blown like dust" through the air "by the spring wind".
