Rangiku Matsumoto vs. Izuru Kira takes place during the Ryoka Invasion when all of Soul Society is in turmoil over the intrusion by the Ryoka namely Ichigo Kurosaki, Uryū Ishida, Orihime Inoue, Ganju Shiba and Yoruichi Shihōin.
Prologue
Hitsugaya chasing Kira.
Tōshirō Hitsugaya, the Tenth Division Captain suspecting something off with the murder of Sōsuke Aizen goes to the Central 46 Chambers to investigate with his Lieutenant, Rangiku Matsumoto. He finds the Central 46 massacred but is interrupted by the arrival of Izuru Kira, lieutenant of the 3rd Division. They follow him out but Kira asks him if he should be follwing him instead of protecting Momo Hinamori lieutenant of the 5th Division whom he had left in the 10th division's barracks safe behind a barrier. But Kira tells him that his barrier though strong against outside attacks is easy to break from within and that Momo had been following Hitsugaya all along. Hearing this Hitsugaya leaves Rangiku Matsumoto to deal with Izuru Kira and goes back looking for Momo Hinamori.[2]

Aftermath
After the Conspiracy of Sōsuke Aizen and his accomplices, Gin Ichimaru and Kaname Tōsen is revealed, Matsumoto is seen pondering about her Captain Hitsugaya having lost. Kira is seen suffering from slight scratches and in a state of shock after hearing that Momo had been apparently been fatally injured although his Captain Gin Ichimaru had promised that she would not be harmed.[5]
