Kazui Kurosaki (黒崎一勇, Kurosaki Kazui) is a human with Shinigami powers. He is the son of Ichigo Kurosaki and Orihime Inoue.[2]
Appearance[]
Kazui is a small boy with orange hair and large dark orange eyes. His face closely resembles that of his mother's, having the same shaped eyes and facial curves, while he inherited his father's spiky hair, though his hair is noticeably smoother than Ichigo's. He wears a light blue hoodie and white pants. When he transforms into a Shinigami, he wears the standard Shinigami robe, though he retains his hoodie.[3]
Personality[]
Kazui is rambunctious, regularly making uninvited appearances in Hiyori Sarugaki's home and freely interacting with remnants of Yhwach's Reiatsu.[4] He is fond of his hoodie.[5] Kazui is also persistently cheerful, carefree, and innocent about even the darker aspects of the spiritual world; though he is happy to spend time with Souls and help them depart from the Human World after their deaths, Kazui does the latter by performing an eldritch ritual involving ominous apparitions instead of the traditional Konsō,[6] and upon seeing one of the skeletons on the Gates of Hell staring at him intensely, Kazui simply grinned back obliviously.[7]
Plot[]
The Thousand-Year Blood War arc[]
Kazui is born to Ichigo and Orihime less than ten years after Yhwach's defeat, and lives in Karakura Town with his parents. Ten years after Yhwach's defeat, Kazui goes to Hiyori Sarugaki's home, but is chased out by Hiyori. He returns to his house and goes to Yuzu Kurosaki's room, where he sees a hole oozing with Yhwach's Reiatsu. He proceeds to touch the Reiatsu by sticking his hand in the hole, but as he does this, the last remnants of Yhwach's power dissipate, which surprises him. He then turns his back as Ichika Abarai suddenly transports herself through a makeshift portal. Ichika introduces herself as a Shinigami apprentice, and Kazui introduces himself and reveals he is a Shinigami as well, shocking her.[8]
Echoing Jaws of Hell arc[]
On the night of Jūshirō Ukitake's Konsō Reisai, Kazui sneaks out of his bedroom after pretending to be asleep so his mother would not catch him, with Kon joining him out of concern for his safety. After riding a spiritual fish through the air, Kazui approaches the lonely Soul of an older man on a street whom he had promised to spend time with that night and invites him to Takakomo Shrine so he can be with others. However, rather than go to the shrine itself, Kazui leads Kon and the man through the brush on the side of the stairs to a small shrine composed of stones and performs a ritual of claps and bows to spawn three ethereal eyeballs and a strange portal lined with teeth, which he promises the intimidated Soul leads to a place where everyone is residing.[9] Later that night, as he walks down the street, Kazui attracts the attention of one of the skeletons on the Gates of Hell summoned by Ukitake, prompting him to cheerfully grin back at its gaze.[10]
Powers & Abilities[]
Enhanced Speed: Kazui is very fast; after fleeing from the Visored warehouse, Hiyori Sarugaki noted how fast he escaped her field of vision.[11]
Fish Manifestation: Kazui can manifest large, ethereal fish that fly through the air with trails of energy for himself and others to ride on, with the fish also obeying his directions for flying.[12]
Shinigami Transformation: Unlike his father, who needs external sources like a Gokon Tekkō, Kon's Gikongan, or the Substitute Shinigami Badge to push his Soul out of his Human body and access his Shinigami powers, Kazui can instantly shift into his Shinigami form and manifest his Zanpakutō at will, with his shihakushō forming over his normal clothes in the process.[13][14]
Portal Creation: By performing a ritual consisting of three claps, two bows, and one more clap that manifests three floating, ethereal eyeballs in front of a small stone shrine near Takakomo Shrine, Kazui can create a portal roughly the size of the average person that is lined on the top and bottom with teeth; according to him, this allows Souls to pass through to a realm filled with other people.[15]
Zanpakutō[]
Kazui wields his Zanpakutō on his back. Its has a bronze handle and tsuba with red wrapping on the former. The tsuba is four prongs bent out to form the shape of the manji, essentially identical to the shape of the tsuba of his father's former Bankai.[16]
Trivia[]
- The theme song that Kubo chose for Kazui is "Newdays" by the artist Schroeder-Headz.[5]
