Kakyō (歌匡) was a Shinigami and a close friend of Kaname Tōsen until her murder, which was the catalyst that proceeded to turn Tōsen against Soul Society.[1]
Appearance[]
Kakyō was a slim woman with long black hair. Despite being blind, Kaname Tōsen considered her to be "beautiful".
Personality[]
Kakyō was described by Kaname Tōsen as a person who "followed the path with the least bloodshed", a philosophy that Tōsen proceeded to adopt himself. Kakyō dream was to become a Shinigami, which she succeeded at, and to use her powers to maintain a peaceful world.[2]
History[]
At some point, Kakyō and her close friend, Kaname Tōsen, sat together as as she told the blind Tōsen that the stars were out, stating that she loved the night sky because it reminded her of the world, with tiny points of light scattered among the darkness that the clouds tried to cover up. While Kakyō asserted that she wanted to clear away those clouds so that not a single light was hidden and that she would do so, Tōsen merely responded that this was good. Some time later, Kakyō informed a surprised Tōsen that she was getting married to a Shinigami and wouldbecome a Shinigami as well now that she had received her acceptance letter from the Shin'ō Academy. With Kakyō detailing how she would bring peace by fighting Hollows and revealing that he was the first person whom she wanted to tell, Tōsen congratulated her and inquired if there was anything he can do to help, only for a smiling Kakyō to request that he simply stay the way he is while she came back every now and then to tell him her stories.[3]
Soon afterward, Kakyō was killed by her husband because she scolded him for killing a comrade over a petty argument. However, Central 46 refused to punish the culprit, much to the fury of Tōsen.[4]
Plot[]
Soul Society arc[]
During his battle against Kenpachi Zaraki, Kaname Tōsen recalls the last moments he shared with Kakyō and the promise he made to her grave to uphold "justice".[5]
