Kūgo Ginjō (銀城 空吾, Ginjō Kūgo) is a Fullbringer and was the leader and member No. 001 of the organization known as Xcution.[1] He is also a former Substitute Shinigami.

Bleach: Can't Fear Your Own World[]

At some point when Ginjō became the first Substitute Shinigami, he was the unwitting pawn of a plot orchestrated by the Tsunayashiro Clan to forcibly aquire Fullbringer corpses to extract the Soul King fragments inside of them. As part of this plot, Tokinada Tsunayashiro placed the surveillance on the Substitute Shinigami Badge given to Ginjō by Jūshirō Ukitake, so they could track all of his Fullbringer associates. The Tsunayashiro family then proceeded to orchestrate a massacre of the Fullbringers, after which a furious Ginjō retaliated by killing the Shinigami assassins. Believing that Ukitake had personally betrayed him, Ginjō went rogue.[3]

Bleach: Can't Fear Your Own World[]

Ginjō and Tsukishima admire Shūhei Hisagi's motorcycle.

Six months after the death of Yhwach and the defeat of the Wandenreich, Ginjō, Giriko Kutsuzawa, and Shūkurō Tsukishima encounter Shūhei Hisagi outside of Kūkaku Shiba's residence. After a shocked Hisagi learns that the formerly hostile Fullbringers assisted Ichigo in the Soul King Palace, Hisagi asks Ginjō why he betrayed Ukitake all those years ago. As Ginjō realizes that Hisagi is far more ignorant about matters than he expected, Ganju Shiba appears and diffuses the tension between them.[4]

After Ganju recounts the events of the Soul King Palace fight to Hisagi, Hisagi once again probes Ginjō for what exactly happened between him and the late Ukitake. After Ginjō recounts the events of his deception of Ichigo, Ginjō reveals that the reason he turned against Soul Society was because a lot of his Fullbringer friends were killed by Shinigami. While Ginjō planned to directly confront Ukitake after helping Ichigo in the Palace, he was too late as the Shinigami captain was already deceased. Before leaving, Hisagi says that his duties as a reporter will compel him to get the truth out, even if he is a Shinigami as well.[4]

Sometime later, as Ginjō is wandering through the Rukongai he notices a commotion around a group of newly-arrived Souls. Investigating it, Ginjō notices a large crowd of religious people proclaiming their faith was right all along about the afterlife. Trying to ignore it, Ginjō thinks it might just have been a Shinigami that leaked some knowledge. But when the crowd addresses him, he is shocked when he hears that the religion they follow is named "XCUTION", like his former Fullbring organization. Curious, he decides to probe the crowd for more information.[5]

Later, while Ginjō, Giriko, and Tsukishima are together in a remote area of the Rukongai, they realize they are being observed. Wondering if the Shinigami plan on silencing them for talking to Hisagi, they suddenly find themselves attacked by the Quincy Candice Catnipp.[6]

As Candice tries to capture them alive as per Mayuri Kurotsuchi's orders, the three Fullbringers put up a better fight against Candice than she anticipated. Because of this she loses control of her temper and blasts the three of htem with the full power of the The Thunderbolt. However, Ginjō and his companions remain unharmed, as Tsukishima had used his Book of the End on a nearby small tree, changing the plant's past to allow it to grow far more so it could function as a lightning rod in the present. As Candice grows even angrier at being foiled, Ginjō and Tsukishima wonder if the Quincy's attack is related to their recent investigation into the new XCUTION cult in the Human World.[7]

As the battle continues, Candice unleashes her power on the Fullbringers once again when the tree Tsukishima used earlier is uprooted by Meninas McAllon. Surprising the Fullbringers with her strength, Meninas throws the tree at them; however, Giriko activates Time Tells No Lies to empower himself and throw the tree back at the two Quincy. As the battle escalates, Ginjō plans to give Tsukishima an opening to use Book of the End on the Quincy, but then all the combatants and observers are distracted when a Garganta opens up nearby and Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez emerges from it.[7]
