Hirenkyaku (飛廉脚, Pure Flying Step; Viz "Flying Bamboo-Blind Slide") is an advanced Quincy movement technique, allowing the user to move at high speed by riding on the flow of Reishi created below their feet.[1] Essentially, it is the Quincy equivalent to the Shinigami's Shunpo and the Arrancar's Sonído.

Description[]

To perform this technique, the user gathers Reishi under their feet and rides them to the desired location. Uryū Ishida implied its speed is superior to Shunpo or Sonído,[2] though Mayuri Kurotsuchi's superior speed during their confrontation suggests this is just a generalization.[3] Like the air-walking skill displayed by most Arrancar and Shinigami, it can be used to hover or fly over long distances. Mayuri complimented Uryū on being able to use this technique at such a young age, suggesting it is difficult to master.[4]

Hirenkyaku enables Quincy to keep up with and overpower faster opponents depending on the user's skill. The use of this technique aided Uryū as he defeated a seated Shinigami officer,[5] a Números Arrancar,[6] and even a Privaron Espada in combat.[7] However, there is apparently more use for the technique than simply moving quickly.

Unnamed Platform Manifestation When travelling through the Garganta, in contrast to Ichigo and Chad, who had difficulty forming just a single path of Reishi, Uryū easily sculpted an individual platform beneath his feet. According to him, only a simple "instance of Hirenkyaku" was required in order to perform this.[8]

Uryū later used this technique to elevate himself and Orihime above the dome of Las Noches, where he revealed he only recently realized it could be used outside the Garganta and in Hueco Mundo itself, lamenting that if he had known sooner, it might have been of some practical use in battle.[9] It is currently unknown if this variation can be used outside of Hueco Mundo.

Known Users[]

Hirenkyaku Masters[]

Hirenkyaku masters are capable of maintaining high-speed movements for extended periods of time and can match the fastest Shunpo users in combat.
(Note: only those who have trained and achieved mastery either stated or displayed, outside any advantage they gain from Quincy: Vollständig, are included in this listing).

Hirenkyaku Experts[]

Experts of the technique are considerably fast, and can maintain high speed movements for extended periods of time. While not as fast as a master, they can keep up quite effectively. Some holding the title are faster than others, but, nonetheless, their application of the technique is highly advanced.

Hirenkyaku Users[]

These practitioners can quickly cross considerable distances, but either intentionally use the technique sparingly or have not performed it frequently enough to properly determine skill level.

Trivia[]

Appearances in Other Media[]

Ryōgo Narita's novel Bleach: Can't Fear Your Own World establishes that Hirenkyaku differs from Hohō and Sonído by being more energy-efficient to use.[11]
