Yoruichi Shihōin vs. Suì-Fēng is a fight taking place during the Ryoka Invasion between Yoruichi Shihōin and her former subordinate, 2nd Division Captain Suì-Fēng, acting as their first encounter since Yoruichi's defection a century prior.

Prelude[]

153Sui-Feng defeats

Suì-Fēng defeats Sentarō Kotsubaki and targets Kiyone Kotetsu.

After 13th Division 3rd Seats Sentarō Kotsubaki and Kiyone Kotetsu aid their captain, Jūshirō Ukitake, in destroying the Sōkyoku,[2] 2nd Division Captain Suì-Fēng defeats Sentarō in a single blow and pins Kiyone underneath her foot, leaving the latter struggling to breathe, while admonishing her for disgracing the Gotei 13 with her contemptible actions before promising to put Kiyone out of her misery before she can disgrace herself any further. However, before Suì-Fēng can do anything, a masked Yoruichi Shihōin grabs and tackles her off the side of Sōkyoku Hill, and as they fall to the ground below, Suì-Fēng demands that Yoruichi let go of her.[3]

Ep55SuiFengAttackedKido

Yoruichi Shihōin prepares to attack Suì-Fēng with Kidō.

With Suì-Fēng questioning who she is, Yoruichi observes that her temperament has not improved and removes the fabric covering her face, causing Suì-Fēng to recognize her, before attacking Suì-Fēng with a Kidō spell as they crash into the forest below.[4]

Battle[]

Ep56YoruichiSuiFengClash

Yoruichi and Suì-Fēng clash with kicks.

Soon afterward, a single leaf falls from a tree, where it is caught between clashing kicks from Yoruichi and Suì-Fēng and is split by the force as they separate. Moving to separate trees, Suì-Fēng stands across from Yoruichi and claims that Yoruichi being gone for a long time does not mean that her skills have improved, only for Yoruichi to observe that Suì-Fēng seems to have lost her touch in return. Suì-Fēng notes that Ichigo Kurosaki was wearing a Tentōken with the Shihōin Clan clan crest on it and asks Yoruichi if she gave it to him, which Yoruichi affirms on the grounds that Ichigo needed to be able to fly in order to save Rukia.[5]

154Yoruichi defeats

Yoruichi rapidly defeats all the Keigun surrounding her with Shunpo and Hakuda.

With Suì-Fēng mocking the Shihōin Clan as having fallen from grace because it will be banished from the four Noble Houses and bringing up how the Shiba Clan has also fallen, which leads her to claim that it is never pleasant to see great clans fall, Yoruichi simply notes that she is talkative today and inquires if this is excitement at seeing her mentor after all these years or just pent-up resentment. Upon being asked if it was hard to succeed Yoruichi as Commander-in-Chief of the Onmitsukidō, Suì-Fēng admonishes Yoruichi for assuming she would not eventually be surprised and reveals that she controls both the Onmitsukidō and the Keigun now before unsheathing her Zanpakutō and jabbing it into the branch she is standing on while proclaiming that Yoruichi's time has passed, causing dozens of Keigun to appear on the branches surrounding Yoruichi. Suì-Fēng reminds Yoruichi that the Corps Commander of the Keigun baring her sword signifies an execution and boasts that anyone who opposes her will be utterly destroyed, including former Corps Commanders. However, as Suì-Fēng declares that Yoruichi abandoned her post and has nowhere to run, a grinning Yoruichi rapidly defeats all the Keigun surrounding her by moving around with Shunpo so fast that she leaves afterimages, leaving Suì-Fēng standing in shocked disbelief as her subordinates fly past her.[6]

157Yoruichi and Sui-Feng clash

Yoruichi and Suì-Fēng clash rapidly and repeatedly in midair with punches, kicks, and grabs.

While Yoruichi asserts that Suì-Fēng has forgotten who she is dealing with and points out that she did not abandon her epithet as she did her post, Suì-Fēng identifies her as the "Flash Goddess" and decides that she has no choice but to rip this epithet apart with her own hands as she removes her haori to expose her sleeveless and backless Keisen Shōzoku.[7] When Yoruichi notes that she has not seen the Keisen Shōzoku for a while, Suì-Fēng asks her if it brings back memories, and as Yoruichi coyly confirms that it has brought back a few, Suì-Fēng insists that she think back and compare which of them is the better warrior before leaping forward and kicking at Yoruichi, who blocks Suì-Fēng's foot with her wrist before repeatedly and rapidly matching Suì-Fēng's kicks with punches and grabs in midair.[8]

157Sui-Feng's Shikai, Suzumebachi

Suì-Fēng releases her Shikai, Suzumebachi.

After she and Yoruichi trade one last blow and move back to their separate branches, Suì-Fēng notices a bruise on her left shoulder and observes that both she and Yoruichi got a hit in, making this a draw, as Yoruichi bleeds from her mouth and asserts that this is only true for now. Wiping away the blood, Yoruichi inquires what the secret to Suì-Fēng's improved combat prowess is, but Suì-Fēng counters that she does not need a trick to fight like this and appears behind Yoruichi with Shunpo. With her Zanpakutō held near a stunned Yoruichi's face, Suì-Fēng releases her Shikai, Suzumebachi, transforming her sword into an ornate gauntlet on her right hand with a long stinger covering her middle finger connected to the gauntlet by a thin chain.[9]

158Homonka appears

A Hōmonka appears over Yoruichi's stomach where Suì-Fēng stabbed her.

Though Yoruichi moves away, Suì-Fēng reappears behind her in midair and declares that there is no escape before stabbing Yoruichi in the abdomen. As a wounded Yoruichi lands on another tree branch, Suì-Fēng reappears on a branch opposite her and reveals that she was going easy on Yoruichi prior before berating Yoruichi for thinking she would not dare hold back. After concluding with a reminder that she told Yoruichi to not get carried away, Suì-Fēng declares that she is the stronger one now and proclaims Yoruichi will pay the cost of being away from the front line for a hundred years with her life.[10] Suì-Fēng inquires if Yoruichi remembers the ability of Suzumebachi as a Hōmonka appears over Yoruichi's stomach wound, prompting Suì-Fēng to detail how Suzumebachi carves a death crest into its target's body on the first strike. Though she admits that this technique was incomplete when Yoruichi left, Suì-Fēng asserts that she has a hundred years to perfect it and that all Yoruichi can do is run around to avoid getting hit twice.[11]

158Yoruichi throws

Yoruichi throws two Anken at Suì-Fēng with her leg.

After concluding Suzumebachi is fatal and nothing can survive two strikes in the same spot, Suì-Fēng appears behind Yoruichi and initiates the second strike. Taking strikes to her upper back and right arm, which gain Hōmonka as well, Yoruichi runs away from Suì-Fēng, who pursues her through the treetops and mocks Yoruichi for attempting to buy time until the Hōmonka disappear as she explains how they no longer have a short time limit and will only go away if she removes them herself. Suddenly, Yoruichi grips a tree branch with her hands and kicks two Anken at Suì-Fēng, who recognizes them and deflects the short blades with the gauntlet of Suzumebachi. With Suì-Fēng's right arm braced, Yoruichi lands on it with her left foot.[12]

158Sui-Feng's incomplete Shunko

Suì-Fēng activates her incomplete Shunkō.

Yoruichi raises her right leg above her head in preparation to bring it down, only for Suì-Fēng to counter with Takigoi, grabbing Yoruichi's foot on her arm with her other hand and trapping her raised foot with her own two feet before raising her right arm to stab at Yoruichi with Suzumebachi, leading Yoruichi to shield herself with both arms. Having landed her strike on Yoruichi's cheek, Suì-Fēng lands on the forest floor alongside a panting Yoruichi, who gains a fourth Hōmonka over the cut, and points to this as evidence she is better than Yoruichi. Declaring this is the end, Suì-Fēng activates her incomplete Shunkō and is surrounded by swirling wind-like energy while she claims to have invented this technique as a combination of Hakuda and Kidō that she only perfected a few days ago and which Yoruichi will be the first victim of.[13]

158Yoruichi's Shunko

Yoruichi activates her own Shunkō.

However, when Suì-Fēng asserts that it does not even have a name yet, Yoruichi solemnly denies this and identifies the technique as Shunkō, and as a stunned Suì-Fēng questions what she is talking about, Yoruichi inquires if she knows why the Keisen Shōzoku opens at the back and shoulders while holding out her fist, which crackles with electricity-like energy. After noting that fabric on the back and shoulders would be wasted because the technique envelops those areas in dense Kidō that draws power to the arms and legs before exploding outward, Yoruichi concludes that any fabric on the back and shoulders would be blown off the moment that the technique is activated as she activates her own Shunkō, blowing the fabric off the back and shoulders of her outfit as she gains an aura of crackling electricity-like Kidō around her body. With Suì-Fēng astonished by this, Yoruichi admits that she did not want to use this move against her and raises her left hand at Suì-Fēng before unleashing a massive blast of energy and revealing that she still cannot control this very well, leaving Suì-Fēng speechless.[14] In the aftermath, as they stand on separate patches of undamaged ground in a crater, Yoruichi inquires if Suì-Fēng now understands why Yoruichi never showed her this technique.[15]

Ep57YoruichiDefeatsSui-Feng

Yoruichi nullifies Suì-Fēng's attempted strike with Hanki.

As a stunned Suì-Fēng claims this is impossible, Yoruichi states she did not teach Suì-Fēng this technique because it was too dangerous. Angered by this, Suì-Fēng rushes forward and attempts to stab Yoruichi with Suzumebachi while declaring this is a lie, only for Yoruichi to neutralize her strike with Hanki and grab her hand as she concludes Suì-Fēng is not ready for this technique yet. Suì-Fēng looks at her hand and realizes Yoruichi neutralized her Kidō with a Kidō of equal but opposite force so easily, leaving her in disbelief at Yoruichi still being stronger than her, and jabs at Yoruichi with her other hand to force the latter to release her grip before leaping back.[16]

159Yoruichi stops

Yoruichi ends the battle by proving herself superior to Suì-Fēng once again.

After pointing out how she should have surpassed Yoruichi by growing more powerful while a century of isolation weakened the latter, Suì-Fēng frantically demands to know how Yoruichi can still stand before and outclass her despite this as she recalls their past together, where she was Yoruichi's loyal subordinate. While continuing to attack Yoruichi with her own Shunkō, Suì-Fēng details how she lost all respect for Yoruichi and cursed her name while swearing to become stronger than her and eventually capture Yoruichi with her own hands. However, though Suì-Fēng claims that she will never forgive Yoruichi for betraying her respect and trust, when she has her assault stopped by a blast from Yoruichi that leaves her fist held inches from Suì-Fēng's face and ruptures the ground behind Yoruichi, Suì-Fēng tearfully inquires why Yoruichi did not take Suì-Fēng with her.[17]

Aftermath[]

159Sui-Feng falls

Suì-Fēng falls to her knees in sadness.

Suì-Fēng falls to her knees in sadness, leaving Yoruichi to look down at her somberly.[18] After 5th Division Captain Sōsuke Aizen sets his endgame into motion, 4th Division Lieutenant Isane Kotetsu informs the combatants within the Seireitei of his plot and betrayal, which Suì-Fēng relays to Yoruichi, having made up with her.[19] Later, Yoruichi and Suì-Fēng appear on Sōkyoku Hill to restrain Aizen himself, to his bemusement.[20]
