Contentious Translations

Sōgyo no Kotowari

This has been bugging me for quite some time. On the wiki, we've officially translated Sōgyo no Kotowari (双魚理) as meaning Truth of Pisces (双 meaning "pair/twin", 魚 meaning "fish", 理 meaning "justice/truth", and the "no" indicating 理 is the possessor). That sounds all well and good for the translation, since "pair/twin" + "fish" logically = Pisces, the twin fish constellation.

However, I decided to check the kanji on Tangorin for funsies, and found that the Japanese language actually has its own set of kanji for the word/symbol of Pisces - 魚座 (魚 being "fish" and 座 being "seat/gathering"...which apparently together form the word for a celestial constellation. Go figure). Now, this might just be Tangorin being inaccurate, but I have a feeling that Viz's translation - Law of the Twin Fish - is more accurate in regard to the second part of the name. Adam, if you could determine what's going on here and if it's actually accurate to use Pisces in the translation when the name itself doesn't have the kanji for that term, that'd be wonderful. Thanks in advance.--Xilinoc (talk) 03:27, May 14, 2014 (UTC)

I checked it, both (双魚, Sōgyo) and (魚座, Uoza) means Pisces, reagardless of kanji used to write. Likewise for me "Pisces" or "Twin Fish" both sounds good and valid translations so, it's up to discuss or vote on Ukitake's talkpage which would be more appropriate :) KazuyaTalk to Me 15:04, September 14, 2014 (UTC)

Zanpakutō (names, release calls, etc.)

Kinpika's Release Command

Kinpika's new command

The new release command.

As pointed out by Will-O-Wisp on Kirinji's page, Kubo has changed the release command of Kinpika in the newly-released volume 65 from "Sparkle" (煌け, kirameke) to...whatever this is. A translation would be much appreciated, thanks in advance.--Xilinoc (talk) 14:50, October 5, 2014 (UTC)

It's "Flash from Illuminating Heavens" (天照一閃, Tenshō Issen). Normally ("天照", Tenshō/Amaterasu) refers to Shintō Sun Goddess - Amaterasu, which further confirms the Light Kidō-type of Kirinji Zanpakutō: Kinpika. KazuyaTalk to Me 19:20, October 5, 2014 (UTC)

Nimaiya's Weapon

Ōetsu Nimaiya uses a weapon he calls "Sayabuse" to dispatch three of Yhwach's elite guards singlehandedly. Anyone have kanji or even a translation? --Reikson (talk) 18:04, October 17, 2014 (UTC)

  • Should've mentioned this before, but it's named in chapter 601, and labeled as a "one swing, one kill" weapon. --Reikson (talk) 18:06, October 17, 2014 (UTC)
The Kanji for "Sayabuse" is 鞘伏 from the raw. Viz seems to call it "sheath dodger". Passing it onto the Corner for their opinion. KenjiSchiffyTalk to meView my work15:12,10/23/2014 UTC
Just let it be as not-translated "Sayabuse" in Oetsu' article, but if it's point, it would translate as Sheath Cover (鞘伏, Sayabuse). 【I'm just... Mad | 語聞見】 22:59, November 19, 2014 (UTC)

Ichibē Zanpakutō

I put it there, (since his page is locked :/). His Zanpakutō seems to have name "Straigth Line" (一文字, Ichimonji) and release command would be "Blacken" (黒め, Kurome).【I'm just... Mad | 語聞見】 12:11, November 27, 2014 (UTC)

According to this raw, the release command would be actually 黒めよ (Kurome yo).--EvilDragonLord (talk) 22:24, December 3, 2014 (UTC)

Character and element (e.g. devices) names

"Time-Space Regression"

As noted here, Hachigen refers his barriers as "Time-Space Regression" when comparing with Orihime's powers, yet I've checked in both manga and anime of the respective chapter referenced, there is no mention of such an actual term. Possibly wrong chapter referenced, or a misunderstanding on my part, but please put in the proper kanji and romaji if available. Yatanogarasu (talk) 06:24, September 25, 2014 (UTC)

C, X, and M Epithets

599Pernida raw
599Lille raw
599Gerard raw

A user managed to obtain the raw of Pernida Parnkgjas's name and epithet, posted on the right. If someone could post the kana for its name, the kana and kanji for its epithet, and a proper rendering of said epithet (Mangapanda and Mangastream differ greatly), that would be much appreciated.--Xilinoc (talk) 14:17, October 2, 2014 (UTC)

Alright, the same user that posted the above raw managed to get the raw for Lille's Schrift as well, also on the right. Translation of the kanji, as well as confirmation of what word the rendered kana form, would be much appreciated.--Xilinoc (talk) 22:57, October 2, 2014 (UTC)

And to top it off, we have Gerard's raw panel. All we're missing is Askin's epithet. KenjiSchiffyTalk to meView my work03:24,10/3/2014 UTC

I don't want to separate it, so I will put everything in one here.
Pernida Parnkgjas (ペルニだ・ペルンカジャス, Perunida Perunkajasu), is Sternritter C - The Covensory (強制軌行 (ザ・コンバルソリィ), Za Konbarusorī; Japanese for "Compulsive Way of Doing")
Lille Barro (リジェ・バロ, Rije Baro), is Sternritter X - The Exorcist (石物貫通 (ダ・イクサクシス), Da Ikusakushisu; Japanese for "Stone Matter Piercing") His epithet in kata roughly says "Exorcist", and Kanji... is very intresting I must say. I will rethink what hidden meaning, Kubo meant to say by those 2 first Kanji, but I think that would be an error or something like that. Mayby he meant All Things (万物, Banbutsu), and with it, It would make any sense.
Gerard Valkyrie (ジェラルド・ヴァルキリー, Jerarudo Varukirī) is Sternritter M - The Miracle (奇跡 (ザ・ミラクル), Za Mirakuru; Japanese for "Miracle") KazuyaTalk to Me 10:45, October 3, 2014 (UTC)
I'm not normally one to contest translations so soon, but I'm not entirely sold on the idea of C and X being The Covensory and The Exorcist, respectively, because the first one isn't even a word (as far as Google can tell me) and the second doesn't begin with X; the general rule with Kubo's epithets is that they're English words that begin with the Schrift letter of the Sternritter wielding them. Now, Mangastream rendered Da Ikusakushisu as The X-Axis and Za Konbarusorī as The Compulsory; given how Lille uses a rifle for aiming and the epithet is about piercing matter, and the kanji for Pernida's epithet includes "Compulsive", is it possible that these are more accurate/correct renderings?--Xilinoc (talk) 13:58, October 3, 2014 (UTC)
Ofc they are accurate Xil :) and my apologies, for my misleading translations lately. Health issues :c KazuyaTalk to Me 19:20, October 5, 2014 (UTC)
Don't worry about it - as long as you manage to correct your mistakes, it's not a huge deal. Anyway, thanks for the confirmation.--Xilinoc (talk) 19:44, October 5, 2014 (UTC)
There's also a couple of mistakes in kana. Pernida Parnkgjas (ペルニダ・パルンカジャス, Perunida Parunkajasu), The Compulsory (強制執行 (ザ・コンパルソリィ), Za Konparusorī; Japanese for "Compulsory Execution") (There is no "way" in kanji so I think just "execution" would be more literal.) The X-Axis is ジ・イクサクシス -- Ji Ikusakushisu. Zhenyoq talk 11:27, October 6, 2014 (UTC)
Raws are out. Askin's epithet is 致死量 (ザ・デスディーリング), Za Desudīringu, Japanese for "Lethal Dose". Zhenyoq talk 04:08, October 9, 2014 (UTC)
Mad got it right, there really was a typo in X-Axis. In chapter 600 kanji is 万物貫通, Piercing EverythingZhenyoq talk 02:27, October 19, 2014 (UTC)

Utsusemi

I was hoping to have Utsusemi (空蝉) double checked. We currently have it translated as "cicada," but a quick check shows that only the second kanji really means that. I know that the phrase refers to the act of molting, but I was wondering if there was a better way to render it. Mohrpheus (Talk) 14:29, October 8, 2014 (UTC)

Literally it says "empty cicada". "(Cast-off) Cicada Shell". Zhenyoq talk 04:24, October 9, 2014 (UTC)

Cage of Life

600's raw is out, and we have the kanji for Hikifune's "Cage of Life" (raw here). Posting of the kanji and reading would be much appreciated.--Xilinoc (talk) 17:14, October 12, 2014 (UTC)

Ch. 605 Techniques

605's raw is out, so here we go. First off is the strange Kamikake (神掛), followed by Ichibei's pushing technique, Senri Tsūtenshō (千里通天賞) (link to the raw for this one because I'm fairly certain I got the last kanji wrong), and finally Yhwach's bow, Sankt Bogen (大聖弓 (ザンクト・ボーグン), Zankuto Bougun). Translations for all three would be much appreciated.--Xilinoc (talk) 05:21, November 18, 2014 (UTC)

The Kamikake is something that from context would mean Suspended God (神掛, Kamikake), but interestingly those 2 Kanji from this: (神掛けて, Kamikakete) means Swear by God and Absolutely. Actulally this is Heavenly Passing Palm of the Thousand Ri (千里通天掌, Senri Tsūtenshō). The Sankt Bogen (大聖弓 (ザンクト・ボーグン), Taiseikyū (Zankuto Bōgun)). Sankt Bogen from german is is Saint Bow. 【I'm just... Mad | 語聞見】 22:59, November 19, 2014 (UTC)

Shihōin Clan Stuff

This past chapter brought to my attention that our translations on the Shihōin clan's page might be outdated. I am not sure where they even originated from. Could someone please check on the translations for the following terms; they may or may not become relevant soon. I'll include our current translations for comparison's sake.

  • Tenshiheisōban (天賜兵装番, House of Godly Gears)
  • Hōgu (宝具, lit. "Treasure Tool")
  • Bugu (武具, lit. "War Tool")
  • Tenshiheisō (天賜兵装, lit. "Heavenly Gifted Soldier Clothing")

Mohrpheus (Talk) 23:39, November 19, 2014 (UTC)

Most of them are correct Morphy ;) but nevertheless, there are things to change, to give it proper meaning, it goes like that:
  • Counter of Imperial Soldier Garments (天賜兵装番, Tenshiheisōban)
  • Treasured Tools (宝具, Hōgu)
  • Armaments (武具, Bugu)
  • Imperial Soldier Garments (天賜兵装, Tenshiheisō)

【I'm just... Mad | 語聞見】 10:39, November 21, 2014 (UTC)

Bump, I was wrong with Tenshiheisōban. Translation would be "Guardian of Imperial Soldier Garments". Reffering to Yūshirō's position as Head of Shihōin Clan :)【I'm just... Mad | 語聞見】 12:11, November 27, 2014 (UTC)

Chapter 607 Stuff

Some other stuff, that I extracted from Chapter 607:

  • Hidden Way of Destruction: Third Path — Iron Wind Murder (裏破道: 三の道 — 鉄風殺, Ura Hadō: Sannodō — Teppūsatsu)
  • Blut Vene Anhaben (佩用の静血装 (ブルート・ヴェーネ・アンハーベーン), Burūto Vēne Anhābēn; German and Japanese for "Wearing the Blood Vein")

【I'm just... Mad | 語聞見】 01:47, November 28, 2014 (UTC)

bump, there are some changes from raws. Still, I was nearly with my neighbourly german language in Blut Vene Anhaben and I perfectly guessed Ura Hadō Kanji :)
  • Blut Vene Anhaben (外殻静血装 (ブルート・ヴェーネ・アンハーベン), Burūto Vēne Anhāben; German for "Wearing the Blood Vein"; Japanese for "Shell of Stilled Blood Guise")
  • Hidden Way of Destruction: Third Path — Iron Wind Murder (裏破道 三の道 — 鉄風殺, Ura Hadō: Sannodō — Teppūsatsu)

Mayuri's Blood Drug

Raw for 596 is out, and we've got the kanji and stuff for Mayuri's explanation of his Blood-Converting Drug. If someone could provide the kanji and a translation of what it means (raw here), that'd be great.--Xilinoc (talk) 22:41, September 20, 2014 (UTC)

I think, it would be called like this : Blood Reorganisation Drug (血液組成を改変薬剤, Ketsueki Sosei wo Kaihen Yakuzai). KazuyaTalk to Me 11:32, September 25, 2014 (UTC)
