Soul King Palace (Flag of Japan 霊王宮 [Reiōkyū])

Soul King Palace
Flag of Japan 霊王宮 [Reiōkyū]
is a separate dimension located within Soul Society that serves as the official residence of the Soul King and its Royal Guard.[1]

Overview

The Soul King Palace consists of several layers, with one layer suspended above the other. The lowest level is comprised from many buildings of the same style to that of Seireitei. From this, a large stairway leads upwards to a wide and flat expanse, with both areas at the base and top of these stairs being lined by rows of huge, circular pillars. Floating above are five discs with numerous buildings on each, while suspended higher still is a large cylindrical structure that has a conical top and bottom.[2]

Defenses

The sekkiseki walls that surround Seireitei are ordinarily intended to protect the Soul King Palace, instead meant only to fall down to Seireitei in times of emergency. However, if emergencies occur in succession, they remain in place around Seireitei indefinitely until things are returned to normal.[3]

The Soul King Palace is further protected by 72 barriers between it and the Seireitei. Should these barriers be forced open via clothing constructed from an Ōken, they cannot be closed off for 1 hour and 40 minutes due to the sheer defensive power of the clothing.[4]

597Divine Soldiers

Senjumaru and the Divine Soldiers.

There exist a group of elite guards known as "Divine Soldiers" (Flag of Japan 神兵 [Shinpei])
"Divine Soldiers"
Flag of Japan 神兵 [Shinpei]
which are led by Senjumaru Shutara, who refers to them as the "Blade of the Soul King" (Flag of Japan 霊王の刃 [Reiō no Yaiba])

. Each guard wears a black hakama with a gray sash tied around their waist and a black mask with four light-colored lines tracing over their heads, and their hair is tied into a long spike at the back of their head before being left to hang free about halfway through the length. They are all armed with swords.[5]

There is a much more powerful version of these soldiers known as a "Second-Class Divine Soldier" (Flag of Japan 二級神兵 [Nikyū Shinpei])

, which Senjumaru refers to as the "Shield of the Soul King" (Flag of Japan 霊王の盾 [Reiō no Tate])

. It resembles an ordinary soldier, but is extremely large and wears a circular black hat on its head. The backs of its wrist each have one-half of a large, black, circular shield on them.[6]

Yhwach's Changes

628Zeichen Palace

The Soul King Palace after being altered by Yhwach.

After absorbing the Soul King, Yhwach drastically altered the appearance of the Soul King Palace, most notably by bringing the Wandenreich city to the palace and placing the main palace at ground level while covering parts of it with ice.[7] He also connected the five floating cities nearby to the Wandenreich city, thus creating a massive Quincy Zeichen, and formed a massive, tower-like palace with Silbern on the top for his new stronghold; he labeled this new city the Wahrwelt (Flag of Japan 真世界城 (ヴァールヴェルト) [Vāruveruto], German for "True World", Japanese for "True World Castle")

Admittance

The route to the inner dimension in which the palace resides can only be opened with "a key", fittingly named the Ōken (Flag of Japan 王鍵 [Royal Key])
Ōken
Flag of Japan 王鍵 [Royal Key]
, the location of which is kept secret, only being passed down verbally from one Gotei 13 Captain-Commander to the next.[1] There are only two ways to enter the Spirit King Palace:
  1. With the permission of the Royal Guard. They don't have to be there physically, they only need to want the person to enter.
  2. Make a Royal Key by creating a Royal Guard.[10]
A Royal Guard can also open up a Chōkaimon (Flag of Japan 超界門 [Super World Gate])
Chōkaimon
Flag of Japan 超界門 [Super World Gate]
to send someone directly to the human world, and use the same gate to send said "someone" back, but to do so requires syncing the arrival and departure times.[11]

Transportation

The only known method to get from section to section of the Soul King Palace is to be catapulted into the sky, in the direction of the intended destination.[12]

One of the rooms is covered entirely in dozens of different fabrics, and has a medium-sized cushioned seat made of wooden bars at the top of the set of stairs. Senjumaru uses this room to take measurements of those whom she creates Ōken Clothing for.[17][18][19][20][21] 545Senjumaru's palace
Ichibē Hyōsube's City It is the floating city that is the headquarters of the Royal Guard member Ichibē Hyōsube. It has multiple buildings that make up the city. The main building is a training dojo, which takes the form of a small building at the top of a flight of stairs carved into the side of a hill. The air is filled with incredibly dense Reishi, which initially prevents visitors unused to such density from moving or breathing properly, though it can be adapted to with time.[22] Ichibē trains visitors in the inner chamber.[23] 545Ichibei's palace

Guards

The Royal Guard, also known as the "Zero Division", are the protectors of the Soul King Palace and its residents, particularly the Soul King. Though they commonly remain within the palace, when the Royal Guard do need to travel, their preferred method of transportation takes the form of a huge pillar called the Tenchūren (Flag of Japan 天柱輦 [Heavenly-Pillar Palanquin])
Tenchūren

Gatonden (Flag of Japan 臥豚殿 [Lying Pig Palace])

Gatonden
Flag of Japan 臥豚殿 [Lying Pig Palace]
is a building in the city that forms the headquarters of the Royal Guard member, Kirio Hikifune.[1]

Overview

The building itself is comprised from a number of adjoining, pillared rotundas that together serve as the home of Kirio Hikifune, who refers to it as "a palace of food". While the exterior of these structures are largely open, they have walls constructed from several, gigantic noren. Housed within are large areas for food preparation, presentation and dining.[2]

Features

The main feature of this palace is a large dining hall where the feasts prepared by Kirio, using her specialized Reiatsu-infused cooking, are consumed. The room itself contains a single, enormous dining table that is surrounded by chairs and lit from above by several lanterns suspended from the ceiling.[1]

Hōōden (Flag of Japan 鳳凰殿 [Fenghuang Palace])

Hōōden
Flag of Japan 鳳凰殿 [Fenghuang Palace]
is the palace Ōetsu Nimaiya resides in and is located within the Soul King Palace.[1]

Overview

Unlike the extravagant palace that Ichigo and Renji walked into upon arriving in Ōetsu's city, the actual palace takes the shape of a simple shack, located on the edge of a cliff. The only distinguishing feature denoting the importance of the building is the sign on the entrance, which, in kanji, states the building's name, Hōōden. The inside of the palace, however, is much bigger than what the exterior suggests it to be. Instead of being a small room, there is instead a deep pit that, if one is not careful, people will fall into immediately when they set foot inside the palace.[1]

Ōetsu Nimaiya's Forge

A water slide at the palace can be taken to reach an enclosed cavern structure at the base of the cliff, that is surrounded on all sides by torrents of water. Ōetsu states that this is the reason the Hōōden is on a cliff as he uses all the water to restore Bankai.[2]

Kirinden (Flag of Japan 麒麟殿 [Qilin Palace])

Kirinden
Flag of Japan 麒麟殿 [Qilin Palace]
is a building in the city that forms the headquarters of the Royal Guard member, Tenjirō Kirinji. Housed within are a number of healing hot springs.[1]

Overview

The building itself takes the shape of a wooden, feudal-era onsen that serves as the home of Tenjirō Kirinji. The only distinguishing feature denoting the importance of the building are two signs on either side of the entrance stating in kanji the building's name, Kirinden.[2]

Features

The main feature of this palace is a pair of large hot springs housed within its large open interior, which are each filled by pools of specialized healing water.[1] Kisuke Urahara has analyzed these hot springs, and constructed his own variation of healing hot spring.[3] Шаблон:HotSprings

Healing Spring Process

520Kazuo and Kazuhiro profile

The effects the hot springs have on the average soul even with protective gear.

The process involves submerging a patient in the waters of the White Bone Hell for a considerable amount of time and then taking them and submerging them in the Blood Pond Hell. By repeating this process over and over again, the body is completely cleansed of the wounded Reiatsu and blood. The waters can heal moderate wounds within a night, making a subject healthier than they were previously.[1]

An average soul or Shinigami without a considerable level of spiritual power can, upon contact with the water from the White Bone Hell and/or the Blood Pond Hell, decompose and be ripped asunder by the hyper-recovery qualities of the water. To be able to use the hot springs at all, let alone while naked and with no adverse effects, is a considerable feat. Even with special garments made from super spirit-thread, anyone coming into contact with the water will have burn scars wherever the water has touched.[4]

Ep206UraharaYoruichiSpar

Yoruichi and Urahara spar in their secret training ground beneath Sōkyoku Hill

A secret training grounds is a place where a person can go to train and become stronger without having to do so publicly, allowing them to focus more on training or hide from others while training.

Urahara Shop training ground

Before beginning his mission into Soul Society to rescue Rukia Kuchiki, Kisuke Urahara takes Ichigo Kurosaki to a huge secret training ground beneath the Urahara Shop, intended to resemble the Sōkyoku Hill training ground.[1] Here, over a period of several days, Urahara helps Ichigo regain his lost Shinigami powers and teaches him the basic techniques of Shinigami combat. Ichigo's partial transformation into a Hollow also takes place here, and Urahara opens the Senkaimon into Soul Society from this room.

The Urahara Shop training ground is a large room with a ceiling and walls painted to resemble a cloudy sky over a floor of desolate, brown, craggy land dotted with dead trees. Urahara claims to have built the room, using Soul Society's technology, in a single day and night.[2]

The final, staged confrontation between the Ryoka and the Mod-Souls Ririn, Kurōdo and Noba also takes place in the training ground.

The training ground is used again by Yasutora Sado as he spars with Renji Abarai to master higher levels of his power; from there, Ichigo, Chad, and Uryū Ishida make their way through the Garganta into Hueco Mundo.

Sōkyoku Hill training ground

Urahara styled his shop's secret training ground on one he built beneath Sōkyoku Hill while young. In this training ground, he and Yoruichi Shihōin would play and train. When Ichigo Kurosaki narrowly escapes defeat by Byakuya Kuchiki, Yoruichi takes him to this training ground in order that he might rapidly attain Bankai through use of the Tenshintai. Renji also attains Bankai in this space.

While very similar in appearance to the Urahara Shop's training ground, the Sōkyoku Hill training ground also sports a hot springs whose waters have the power of healing injuries[3].

Visored warehouse training ground

Beneath the Visored's warehouse hideout is another secret training ground, bearing a strong resemblance to those beneath the Urahara Shop and the Sōkyoku Hill. Ichigo's mastery of his inner Hollow and his training with the Visored takes place here; Orihime Inoue also meets and befriends Hachigen Ushōda here as he heals Tsubaki.

Karakura Hospital training ground

Ryūken Ishida has constructed a training area inside Karakura Hospital. In this stark, metallic chamber, Ryūken fights Uryū to exhaustion, finally shooting him with a Quincy Spirit Arrow to restore his lost abilities.
